Kara is a completely healthy, 14-year-old kitty, who is a somewhat special case with just the right home desperately needed for this girl.

She’s being fostered through Animal Friends of Lansdowne, who had their veterinarians thoroughly check her out. She tested negative for FIV, was brought up to date on her vaccinations and had senior bloodwork done, which came back all normal. She is microchipped and even had a pedicure.

Kara recently became orphaned as her beloved owner tragically died suddenly.

In the home previous to her most recent one, Kara was one of six cats, including one who bullied her and others mercilessly. Kara is as sweet and docile as she can be, but she is timid and will hide if you let her.

It is important to seek her out and push her to interact with you. When you do, she really enjoys the attention and will purr enthusiastically to reward your efforts. She is a darling cat who just needs help rebuilding her confidence.

Her temporary foster mom reports that with some prodding, Kara is coming around nicely, purring when petted, and even allowing some lap time. She will certainly need time to transition and settle in again when she moves to her forever home.

Kara will need to have a separate, quiet space available for an initial period, where her opportunities to hide, escape due to fearfulness, and to avoid contact are limited. A small, safe space like a bathroom is ideal.

Next, Kara needs a person or persons who will devote themselves to helping her adjust and come out of her self-imposed shell. She can be in a home with other cats (with slow, respectful introductions as always recommended), but they should not be aggressive. Ideally, a peaceful home, maybe with no other pets, and a calm, patient human, perhaps a senior, would be the absolute best situation.

After losing two dads and two homes, we want Kara’s next home to be her last. She is a senior kitty and as such, should be provided regular, annual vet care to ensure her continued good health and to catch any problems early. While timid, she is extremely sweet and is no trouble to care for, get into a carrier, or medicate when need be. She has lovely manners, uses her litter box faithfully, and enjoys mostly wet food but is not fussy about it. She needs to be a strictly-indoor pet.

Might you fit the bill for this lovely girl or know someone who does? Screening including vet references will be done in keeping with rescue policy to ensure the best fit for Kara and her new family. Kara is presently safe with the Animal Friends of Lansdowne rescue, but she is in a home with many other cats, which is not ideal for her or for her temporary foster mom.
