A perennial question from readers around this time each year concerns the right time for taking down hummingbird feeders.

Resident birds launched into their migration south within the past week or two, leaving behind abandoned feeders. Then, within a few days, other hummers – most likely migrants from the north – showed up at those same feeders for a few days before also continuing to the south.
