Bella is a four-year-old Catahoula mix. She is a sweet and friendly girl. Bella walks well on a leash and loves to play ball. She does well with children, but does not like other dogs and is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. Come out and play ball and she will love you.

Dear Readers, the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II brought out the best in people. The world reacted with such dignity and affection. Thousands of people attended the funeral procession and two of her Corgis named Sandy and Muick were waiting at the palace as the procession passed. It was a fond reminder of her love for dogs.

Queen Elizabeth II is perhaps the most famous Pembroke Welsh Corgi owner in history; she owned more than 30 of the dogs in her lifetime. She received her first Pembroke Susan, for her 18th birthday. She was immediately smitten with her.

Susan became the common ancestor of 14 generations of Corgis that Queen Elizabeth II had.

In fact, the Queen oversaw and supported a breeding program at Winsor Castle. Two of the Queen’s final pups, Holly and Willow were direct descendants of Susan. Over the decades, Corgis became her constant companions.

Weavers originally brought the Corgi breed to Wales in 1100 from Belgium. Bred to herd cattle and sheep these sturdy, short-legged herders are the ancestors of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. There are actually two distinctly separate breeds of Corgis. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi has rounded ears and the Pembroke Corgis have erect pointed ears.

Known for being happy, loving, and intelligent, Corgis have excellent dispositions. They think for themselves and have an independent streak, but they adore their families. Princess Diana once commented that the dogs surrounded the Queen like a moving carpet.

During her years on the throne, the Queen used her love for Corgis to make the monarchy friendly and put people at ease. It is no wonder why the Queen always had her furry companions by her side. Corgis will forever be royalty. Long live the Corgi!
